COMMUNITY BUILDING is a multi-media guide prepared by the National Museum of African American History and Culture, a branch of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. It is part of a series of presentations entitled “Talking About Race.” There is no mention of community land trusts in this guide, but it touches on an essential aspect of our work, what is sometimes referred to as “keeping the C in CLT.” But what is “community”? And how do CLTs ensure that diversity and inclusion are at the center of their efforts to involve ALL members of the community they serve in informing and guiding the organization’s work?
